Q: How do I place an order?

World of Maps offers five ways in which to purchase a product:

  1. Online: Fill in the required information on the order form that is supplied after clicking the "check out" button. Please follow all instructions and read all information on each page. This type of online purchase does require your credit card information.
    • Make sure your internet settings accept cookies.
    • Do not put spaces between credit card numbers during checkout.

  4. Order by Mail: You may send in an order request by mail. However, if you plan on paying by cheque, please contact us prior to sending in the order so we can put the item on hold and give you a total for the cheque payment. Please include your full name, address, phone number, items requested and shipping preference if applicable. If paying by credit card, include the full credit card number, expiration date and credit card holder's name.
  5. Email: You may also use e-mail as a purchase option, remember to include complete address, telephone number and credit card info or you could telephone us to provide the credit card information.
    With any of the above methods, please review your order to ensure all information provided is complete and correct to avoid delays in shipping.
Q: Methods of Payment
  • World of Maps accepts Visa and MasterCard
  • Online purchases must provide a valid credit card number. The customer's billing name and address should match the address and name listed on the credit card.
  • Money orders are accepted. World of Maps will not ship an order until payment has been received. Using money orders will cause a slight delay, so please allow for this.
  • If paying by cheque or money order, please contact us prior to sending the payment for a total amount payable.
  • All international money orders must be payable in US dollars.
  • Orders within Canada are charged in Canadian funds only.
  • World of Maps will also accept payment by wire transfers. Please note, a $25.00 processing fee will apply.
  • World of Maps reserves the right to refuse payment by credit card for any order placed.
Q: When will my order be shipped?
  • Your order will be processed and shipped within 2 business days of World of Maps receiving the order provided the item(s) is in stock and there are no problems with your order.
  • Business days do not include weekends or holidays.
  • Delays in shipping will occur if:
    • The order form is incorrectly filled out (e.g. Invalid address or incomplete address such as an Apt# or Suite# missing)
    • Your credit card number or expiry date is invalid or the card is declined
    • An item is out of stock
    • No phone number or an invalid phone number is provided
  • If an item is out of stock, the order will be shipped when the item is available. (we will contact you by email to inform you)
  • When paying by money order or wire transfer the order will be shipped as soon as the payment has been received and verified.
  • World of Maps will make every effort to ship an order as quickly as possible. However, World of Maps cannot guarantee delivery by specific dates or times.
  • Please order well in advance should you require a product by a specific date and indicate the date you need the product by if there is a deadline date.
Q: How will my order be shipped?
  • World of Maps does NOT offer overnight courier service.
  • World of Maps uses Canada Post and UPS for shipping.
Q: How will I be contacted?
  • Email is our main form of communication for all online orders. World of Maps will use the email listed in the order form for communications.
  • Please review your order for correctness and to make sure the email address given is valid.
  • Please ensure that World of Maps is on your list of accepted emails.
  • Customers are responsible for adding World of Maps to their list of approved senders.
  • World of Maps will not reply to emails from customers requesting World of Maps to fill out a request to be on the customer's approved list.
  • You will receive an automatically generated email confirming receipt of your order. If you do not receive this email within 24 hours after placing an order, please contact us as your order may not have been submitted correctly.

Q: How do I know that you received my order?
  • You will receive an automatically generated email confirming your order. This email will be sent to the email address you provide in the "Sold To" section of your order form. (Please ensure that World off Maps is on your list of accepted emails. World of Maps will not respond to emails sent requesting us to link to you email to get on your approved email list.)
  • If you do not receive this email within 24 hours after placing an order, please contact us as your order may not have been submitted correctly or you may have entered your email address incorrectly.
  • The confirmation email will contain your order description and the address you have entered. It will not include any credit card information.
Q: What if there is a problem with my order?
  • Should there be a problem with you order, we will email you within 2 business days of receiving your order to inform you of the problem. This email will be sent to the email address given in the "Sold To" section of the order form.
  • In the event of a problem with an order, we will hold the item(s) ordered for two weeks after we have emailed you. If we do not receive a response within the two weeks; we will try to contact you by phone. If we do not receive a response, your order will be automatically cancelled after the two weeks.
  • Some common problems:
    • Credit card number is invalid or is declined; an incorrect expiration date will cause the card to be declined
    • Billing or shipping address fields are filled out incorrectly
    • Phone number is not given
    • Items ordered are currently out of stock.
Q: How do I change my order or order information?
  • Please contact World of Maps as soon as possible with any changes as we cannot change orders already processed and shipped.

Q: Who is responsible for brokerage fees, international duties and tariffs?
  • Prices listed do NOT include any tax or tariff imposed by the government of the destination country.
  • Please check with you local government agency to determine the applicable tariffs. In general, books, maps, and other paper products are not dutiable items.
  • World of Maps is not responsible for any brokerage fee charged.
  • World of Maps does not charge GST or any other tax to products ordered from outside of Canada.
    International Shipping Rates (outside Canada and the US)
  • Shipping rates for orders will be emailed to customers.
  • Please check with you local government agency to determine the applicable tariffs. In general, books, maps, and other paper products are not dutiable items.
  • World of Maps is not responsible for any brokerage fee charged.
  • World of Maps does not charge GST or any other tax to products being shipped outside of Canada.
    Local Ottawa Orders
  • Please be advised that all Ottawa orders placed online are subject to the same processing time as all other online orders.
  • Orders will be processed within 2 business days of us receiving the order.
  • Orders with a Ottawa delivery address will be shipped in the same manner as all other orders unless a specific request otherwise has been made.
  • Should you require faster service, please call of fax in your orders to the numbers listed below. Local Ottawa courier charges will be provided once an order is placed.

Q: What shipping delays may occur?
  • Any and all shipping times given are approximate and may be subject to delays.
  • World of Maps cannot control delays due to:
    • Customs clearance delays
    • An incorrect address provided by the customer (please check your order for accuracy prior to submitting).
    • Attempted delivery but the customer is not home to receive the delivery
    • Extreme weather
    • Postal strikes
  • Refunds for shipping charges will not be issued should any of the above delays occur.

Q: Privacy Policy: What do you do with personal information?
  • World of Maps is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of our customers.
  • Absolutely NO personal information gathered by World of Maps will be supplied to external firms for marketing purposes or demographic studies.
  • World of Maps collects only the information necessary to know where to ship the product, and to whom it should be addressed.
  • We do not retain information on our server to recognize you when you return to save you the trouble of re-entering your shipping information. This information will never be released to external parties for any reason.
Q: What is your Return Policy?
  • We want you to be happy with your purchase and shop with confidence at World of Maps.
  • If there are any problems with your order we request that you email us at info@worldofmaps.com or call us to let us know what the nature of the problem is before returning any items.
  • Please understand that we will not accept returns on software, or digital products that have been opened, but we will offer an exchange for the identical product if the one you receive is defective. Proof of purchase is required.
  • The customer is responsible for all return shipping charges of the product. A refund for the original purchase price of the products will be issued in the form of a "Gift Card" once World of Maps receives the returned merchandise in good re-sellable condition. World of Maps does not refund the original billed shipping charges. The "Gift Card" has no expiry date and the number printed on it can be used for telephone or website purchases as well. There are no refunds by cash or credit card.
  • Refused Delivery: If a customer refuses delivery of a package and the package is returned to us by UPS on our account, the customer will receive a refund for the purchase price of the item(s) minus any shipping charges billed on our account.
  • Refunds / Retuns are NOT allowed for any special ordered items.
Q: What is World of Maps' Marketing Policy?
  • World of Maps does not market by email or phone.
  • Customer's email address and phone numbers are only used to contact the customer regarding an order the customer placed.
  • You will not receive emails or phone calls from World of Maps Ltd. promoting specials, sales or products.
Q: What about credit cards on the Internet?
  • Your credit card information is only accessible via an encrypted connection that uses the same encryption strength as online banking institutions. Additionally, this information is only accessible by World of Maps' trusted staff members.

Refused or Undeliverable Orders

Q: Under what circumstances might my order be returned to World of Maps as undeliverable?
  • Incorrect address provided by the customer.
  • Customer is consistently not available to receive the package.
  • Customer does not respond to "Attempted Delivery" card left by the delivery company.
  • Package is refused. This can occur if the shipping address is an office or apartment building and the customer does not inform reception staff of the upcoming delivery.
  • Package is sent to a person who is not aware that the customer is sending them a package. The order is then refused.
  • Customer has moved.
  • If a package is returned to World of Maps for the above reasons, additional shipping charges will apply for World of Maps to re-send the order.
  • Please ensure all information on the order form is correct prior to submitting an order; if you need to change incorrect information, please notify World of Maps immediately after submitting an order. Once an order is shipped, we cannot change information.
  • If the "ship to" person is different than the "bill to" person, please inform the "ship to" person that a package will be coming.
  • Please let all reception staff at offices or apartment buildings know that you are expecting a shipment.

Product Information

Q: What happens if a back order occurs?
  • There are times when demand for particular products will exceed our quantity on hand or you may have ordered a rare map that is on order by us and has simply not yet arrived.
  • When a back order does occur, we will contact you by e-mail with an expected date of arrival.
  • In the case of any unexpected delay, we will inform you as promptly as possible and keep you abreast of your order's status.
  • Our staff may suggest a similar product that is in stock and ready to ship.
    Special order items
  • Some products are available by special order only and that will generally be indicated in the product information. Examples of special order items: Non-stock Globes, rare maps, nautical charts of foreign areas, etc.
  • Special order items are not kept in stock and have to be ordered from the supplier once a customer requests the item. The time it takes for us to receive the item from the supplier depends on the item ordered. You will receive an email indicating the expected arrival time for the item.
  • Full payment is required prior to us ordering the item.
  • All special orders are non-refundable once we have ordered the item from the supplier.
  • Additional shipping charges may apply. We will email you a quote for your approval prior to processing your order.
    Multiple Quantities Ordered
  • In some cases, customers will order large quantities of an item of which we do not have all of the requested copies available. In this instance, we have to special order the requested copies from our supplier. The time it takes for us to receive the items from the supplier depends on the items ordered. You will receive an email indicating the expected arrival time for the items.
  • Full payment is required prior to us ordering the items.
  • As this is a special order, no refunds are permitted.
    Globes
  • Additional shipping charges may apply for globes ordered due to their large size.
  • Special Order Globes: Special order globes are not kept in stock and have to be ordered and shipped from the supplier to the customer. Additional shipping charges will usually apply and shipping times will vary.
  • Shipping charges will be quoted by email for customer approval prior to processing an order.
